How to Create a New Concept with AI

Markus Etter

Hello AI lovers, let me show you something that's going to change how you think about coming up with ideas. You know that moment when you have a vague vision for a video but you can't quite figure out how to structure it? Or when you're staring at a blank page trying to turn "make something cool about sustainability" into an actual story? That's where most projects stall out before they even begin.

Story Boards AI fixes that problem. We built tools that take your messy, half-formed ideas and help you develop them into actual concepts you can work with.

Not by replacing your creativity, but by giving it structure and momentum.Let me walk you through exactly how this works.

Starting Your Project

First things first: log into your Story Boards AI account. If you don't have one yet, creating an account takes about thirty seconds. We kept the signup process simple because nobody wants to fill out a form longer than the video they're trying to make.

Once you're in, you'll see your dashboard. This is where all your projects live. Hit the "New Project" button. You'll see a few options, but the one we're talking about today is "Develop Concept with AI."Click that, and you're off.

Feeding the AI Your Idea

Now comes the fun part. You get to tell the AI what you're thinking, even if what you're thinking is barely coherent.

The interface asks for a few pieces of information. Don't overthink this. Just answer honestly.

Your story idea: This can be anything from "a day in the life of a coffee bean" to "I want to make something about climate change that doesn't make people want to turn it off." One sentence works. A paragraph works. Whatever you've got rattling around in your head, put it in the box.

Project length: Pick your timeframe. We go from 30 seconds up to 5 minutes. This matters because a 30-second concept looks completely different from a 3-minute narrative. The AI needs to know how much room it has to work with.

Format: What are you actually making? A social media ad? A short film? An explainer video? YouTube content? The format shapes everything about how the story gets told.

Tone: This is where you set the vibe. Inspirational? Dramatic? Funny? Dark? Energetic? The same story about a product launch feels completely different when you tell it with humor versus when you tell it with intensity.

Fill those fields out and hit "Generate."

What Happens Next

The AI goes to work. It takes your inputs and generates multiple story concepts for you to choose from. You'll typically see three different directions right off the bat.

This is where Story Boards AI gets interesting. We're not giving you one option and saying

"here, use this." We're giving you choices because creativity isn't one-size-fits-all. Maybe the first concept is too safe. Maybe the second one is too weird. Maybe the third one is exactly what you needed but didn't know how to articulate.

Look at each option. Read them carefully. Think about which direction excites you most.

Not feeling any of them? Hit "Regenerate." The AI will take another swing at it with completely new concepts. Do this as many times as you need. There's no penalty for exploring options. That's literally what this tool is for.

When you find something that clicks, hit "Next."

From Concept to Script

Once you've selected your concept, Story Boards AI generates a full script based on that direction. This isn't just an outline. It's an actual script with scenes, actions, dialogue if needed, and visual descriptions.

The script becomes your blueprint. It shows you exactly what happens, shot by shot, so you can visualize the whole thing before you start building your storyboard.

This is where a lot of people realize they've saved themselves hours of work. Instead of staring at blank pages trying to figure out scene transitions and pacing, you've got structure. You can edit, refine, and adjust from here. That's infinitely easier than starting from nothing.

A Quick Note on Access

If you're using a free account, you'll get access to the first 9 shots of your script. That's enough to see how the concept develops and whether this direction works for your project. For full access to longer scripts and unlimited shot generation, you'll want to upgrade to a paid plan.

We built it this way so you can test the tools and see if they fit your workflow before committing to anything.

Why This Matters

Concept development is the phase where most projects either gain momentum or die quietly. You can have the best production skills in the world, but if your concept is weak or unclear, you're building on a shaky foundation.

AI doesn't replace creative decision-making. You still choose the direction. You still decide what feels right. But it removes the friction of translating a vague idea into a structured narrative.

I've watched people spend days trying to crack a concept, going in circles, second-guessing themselves, starting over. With AI-assisted concept development, that same process takes minutes. You iterate faster. You explore more options. You get to the good stuff quicker.

The tool works best when you come to it with at least a kernel of an idea. It's not a magic "make me a viral video" button. It's a collaborator that helps you develop what you're already thinking about.

Making It Your Own

After you've got your generated script, the real work begins. Read through it. Does it match what you envisioned? What would you change? What surprised you in a good way? What feels off?

Edit ruthlessly. The AI gives you a starting point, but you're the final authority on what works for your project. Cut scenes that don't serve the story. Combine shots that feel redundant. Add details that make it more specific to your vision.

This is your concept now. Shape it until it feels right.

Getting Started

The difference between people who make things and people who talk about making things usually comes down to one thing: starting. AI concept development removes one of the biggest barriers to starting, which is figuring out what you're actually making.

You don't need a film degree. You don't need years of experience. You just need an idea and the willingness to iterate on it.

Story Boards AI handles the structure. You handle the vision. Together, you build something worth watching.

Log in, start a new project, and see where the AI takes your idea. Worst case, you explore some concepts and learn what doesn't work. Best case, you crack something brilliant in the next fifteen minutes.

Either way, you're moving forward instead of staring at a blank page.
